The National Key University
HNUE is leading University in the teachers education system. It is one of the major centers for teacher training and scientific research, and has trained many talented people, including many of the country's outstanding scientists.
The mission of HNUE is to train high-quality human resources in its undergraduate and graduate education programs; to nurture and promote talents for the national education system and community; to conduct research on pure sciences, educational and applied sciences at an advanced level; to provide services on education and science and technology contributing to the country’s industrialisation, modernisation and international integration.
HNUE serves as a core institution in the system of higher education to train teachers, lecturers and educational managers, to improve qualifications of staff, to develop training programs, and to compile textbooks. HNUE also plays a key role in educational innovations, through a team of respected authors who have created curriculum, textbooks, and guide books for teachers of different grades and levels, and through leading consultants in the development of education policy.
At the time of the 2011-2012 academic year, the University has 23 training faculties and two departments, namely: Faculty of Mathematics-Informatics, Faculty of Information Technology, Faculty of Physics, Faculty of Chemistry, Faculty of Biology, Faculty of Technology Education, Faculty of Philology, Faculty of History, Faculty of Geography, Faculty of Vietnamese Studies, Faculty Political Science Education, Faculty of Philosophy, Faculty of Social Work, Faculty of Educational Psychology, Faculty of Special Education, Faculty of Primary Education, Faculty of Early Childhood Education, Faculty of Education Management, Faculty of Physical Education, Faculty of National Defense Education, Faculty of Music & Fine Arts Education, Faculty of English, Faculty of French, Department of Russian, and Department of Chinese .
HNUE has two affiliated schools, the High School for Gifted Students and the Nguyen Tat Thanh Demonstration Secondary School.
HNUE has two research institutes: the Institute for Educational Studies, and the Institute of Social Sciences. More than 20 research centers and centers for technology transfer of scientific and technological achievements are also attached.
At the undergraduate level, the university has 42 training programs, of which seven are of high quality. There are 22 non-formal training programs; a bachelor's joint training program (Vietnamese Language and Culture), an associate training program for teachers of school equipment.
At the postgraduate level, there are 49 master's programs, 41 doctoral programs as well as some master's and doctorate programs (Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics ...) associated with international universities in Europe and around the world. HNUE is regarded as the first higher education institution in Vietnam to offer postgraduate training programs.
The University has built a staffing that have strong qualifications, experience and enthusiasm following the professional model of famous scholars who have worked at the university, such as Professor Dang Thai Mai, Professor Dao Duy Anh, Professor Tran Duc Thao, Professor Tran Van Rich, Professor Cao Xuan Huy, Professor Pham Huy Thong, Professor Le Van Thiem, Professor Nguyen Ngoc Luong, Professor Nguyen Lan, and others. Many of them are experts in their field, and their reputations have spread out not only domestically but also regionally and worldwide. Some officials of the University have become senior leaders of the Party and State. As of early 2011, the faculty of the University includes 70 professors, more than 350 associate professors; 33 members with People's Teachers title and 118 members who are Teachers of Excellence.
Currently, the total number of staff population is more than 1,300 people, including nearly 800 teaching faculty. More than one third of faculty have Doctorate degrees and Ph.D, the rest have a Master degree in specialisation.
Over its 59 years of existence, the University has trained more than 81,000 bachelors of science, more than 9,000 masters and over 830 PhDs. The research achievements in pure science, applied science, and educational science have also been recognized. From the year 2000 to date, 101 cases have been the subject of basic research for the State, 2 programs of State-level, 2 research programs of Ministry level; 51 ministerial key projects, 500 projects of ministerial level; 8 tasks for the Ministry in environment and safety - occupational health, education on sea island; 6 projects for pilot production; 836 projects for the University. Many teachers have been honored to receive noble prizes such as Ho Chi Minh Award, The State Science Award, The International Cosmos Prize, and The Vietnam Talent Award...
The publication of the results of scientific research in international scientific journals has been increasing. In the academic year 2009 - 2010 more than 70 research projects of faculty and graduate students were published in prestigious magazines abroad. The Journal of Science of Hanoi National University of Education (Journal of Science, HNUE) a scientific journal of prestige, is now issued eight times each year, including two in English. It publishes the results of scientific research in the fields of natural science, social science and educational science.
With its outstanding achievements in these comprehensive activities, the Hanoi National University of Education has won prestigious awards from the Party and State including the Third Class Medal of Labour (1961), the Second Class Medal of Labour (1962) and the First Class Medal of Labour (1981). For innovations, it was awarded the Second Class Medal of Independence (1986), the First Class Medal of Independence (1996) and the Ho Chi Minh Medal (2001). On 11th November 2004, it was honoured to receive the Hero of Labour in the renovation stage from the President of the State.
